Training of civil society groups to take part in the ‘African Climate Change Appeal’ programme, in Ethiopia, November 2008

 

Towards a Climate Policy that Benefits Poor Countries & Population Groups in Africa. Background Paper for the Design of the Norwegian Climate Policy. Oslo: The Norwegian Commission on Policy Coherence in Development (2008).

 

Capacity Building of Professionals to take Part in Climate Change (We are undertaking this project in collaborating with Climate Network Africa. The first in a series of planned workshops was held on the 14th, September 2007, titled ‘The Role of the Finance Sector in Climate Change’.

 

Capacity Building of Civil Society Groups to take part in Climate Change and the UNFCCC Process (we have been running this programme from 2006-2008)

 

Tracking the UNFCCC process for African CSOs.Eco-Build Africa has been following the UNFCCC process at its COP/MOP meetings and giving contributions on concerns in the Developing countries.

 

Currently hosting the Climate Change Consortium Kenya (CCC-K) for Civil society organisations which have come together to articulate the Climate change issues in the African continent.

 

Applied Research & Community Projects

 

Bio-diesel and urban transportation.The project is supported by Sync Consult, South Africa. Other aspects of this project is the coconut bio diesel which we are developing for the coast region)

 

A Global Perspective on Engineering Sustainable Building Systems (2008-2010). A Project of Green Arch / Eco-Build Africa, University of Florida, Rinker Centre, and the National Science Foundation of the United States of America. A three year research on building sustainability being carried out at the East African Coast.

 

Impacts of Human Settlements on the Natural Resources (We have been asked to develop this project by UN-Habitat. The outline proposal is complete. We shall be collaborating with Mpereeza Associates – Planners - and Technology Solutions – for GIS support in this project).

 

 

Sida Urbanisation Policy (We developed this in 2006 - complete)

 

Sida Lake Victoria Initiative Strategy 2007-2009 (Focus on Strategy Area Two). We have just completed this project for Sida Sweden, in collaboration with Mpereeza Associates

 

Evaluation of performance of ECOVIC (We evaluated this organization last year for Sida Sweden).

 

Nairobi, an Urban Portrait (2007 - ) a collaborative study of the city of Nairobi, covering various themes, e.g. transport, waste management, modern architecture, housing, culture, spaces for international organisation, shopping, religion, education, slum upgrading, etc. This study is undertaken together with Harvard Graduate School, USA and ETH-Studio Basel, Switzerland and Department of Architecture and Building Science, University of Nairobi.

 

Dandora Landfill Gas Project (2006-2007): Research into environmental hazards from the biggest dumpsite in Kenya, the Dandora dumpsite. Study included explorations of community based methane gas capture solutions.

 

Kibera, Kounkuey (2007- ) applied research to secure, rehabilitate and release for use, public space in the Kibera informal settlement in Nairobi, in collaboration with Harvard Graduate School, USA.
